Architecture & design for self-contained chemical waste processing
PAB Architects was engaged to transform a brownfield site in Merseyside, creating a fully self-contained chemical waste recycling plant in both refurbished and new-build premises. This huge 100,000sqm development was to house processes whereby waste chemical material could be treated and separated, resulting in heat-producing material which could be burned to atmosphere. Waste was to be collected from premises across the North West for treatment at the new Merseyside depot.
PAB Architects was engaged by our international blue chip client, operating a multi-faceted waste management organisation throughout Europe. Specialising in waste recycling, including industrial and chemical waste, our project supported the client’s North West England operations.
Key to the success of this project was understanding our client’s operations and what it required from a building designed to house three key, dangerous processes, all of which must be self-contained and under cover. No external processing was permitted. Internally, the building was to create a protected atmosphere throughout the waste processing and recycling operation.
PAB Architects worked closely with our client team to understand its product, processes, and the flow of material through the plant from arrival to end product, planning a scheme which provided for efficiency and safety of personnel at every stage.
PAB delivered this laboratory and waste recycling project on a brownfield, contaminated site, dealing with the lasting effects of contamination from previous manufacturing uses throughout our architect, design and project management services.
Our team designed a new-build, purpose-built administration office on the site, together with high-specification research, development and quality control laboratories to advance the client’s work in chemical waste recycling. The existing warehouse and manufacturing building on site was refurbished and redesigned for the client’s operational recycling uses and work flow.
Our bespoke architect, design and build services delivered an efficient new processing plant for our client to support its large-scale industrial waste recycling work in the North West.
This unusual project, working alongside an international blue chip client, encompassed both internal and external elements including laboratory design and build, office fit-out, external hard and soft landscaping, vehicle management and on-site weighbridge to create a fully self-contained base supporting our client’s business growth in the region.
