Sustainable Retirement Bungalow, Mawdesley
PAB Architects supports our client on the architectural design of its new-build retirement bungalow in the rural village of Mawdesley, West Lancashire. Our architect and design team incorporated environmentally friendly and sustainable building construction methods and up-to-the-minute technologies to achieve a low-energy design for this property which, once occupied, will carry a low carbon footprint.
Our client’s specification for this new-build bungalow included accessibility features, low maintenance, low running costs and open living spaces, creating a single-level retirement home that can be enjoyed by a single person living with care assisted needs.
PAB’s private client presented our team with a retirement and downsizing brief for a new build bungalow, to create a single-level living space for years of comfortable retirement by a single person living with care needs.
The property has been constructed on vacant, green belt land, and is built using modern construction methods to achieve very low running and maintenance costs.
Planning restrictions within “green belt” policies were a particular challenge navigated by our PAB Architects team during this new build home design project, together with biodiversity and net environmental targets, and accurately providing contractors with the areas and volumes to construct the single storey bungalow with 4m ridge constraints.
With these challenges at the forefront of our project planning and architect design services, PAB’s architectural technologists designed our client’s retirement bungalow with solar PV panels to generate renewable energy, ensuring this retirement bungalow has an environmentally friendly, low-carbon footprint and is cost-efficient to run.
PAB Architects adopted a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to deliver a new build bungalow design which carries a low carbon footprint and low energy consumption. With expert planning, PAB’s architect team utilised up-to-the-minute construction techniques behind a façade of traditional brick and natural slate for the bungalow’s exterior for greater energy efficiency in the fabric of the building.
The bungalow is measured with low permeability from the air tightness-controlled ventilation and heat pump technology, and state-of-the-art construction of floors, walls and vaulted ceilings, resulting in low running costs for heating, lighting and power demand.
With full project architect and expert architectural services from start to finish, PAB Architects delivered a purpose-designed, bespoke single storey, new build bungalow to 5* retirement living standards.
Accessible, low maintenance and cost-efficient, this new bungalow home in West Lancashire is a desirable place within which to enjoy years of retirement.
